The challenge of photographing a demonstration is to convey the atmosphere and the politics of the march. The national strike by Public Sector Workers brought together a rainbow spectrum of different political groups from the Marxist revolutionists to members from the London Occupy camp to the highly organised unions of Unison, Unite, PCS and the National Union of Teachers, amongst the 27 different unions taking part. A legacy of working in Botswana was the development of a Fill in Flash technique to create a 'natural light' feel to the final images. The key to this is the use of a fairly old Metz 60 flash unit as the backbone of this technique. Here are some examples from the day. Further images can be found here.
The images form part of a continuing series of politically motivated photographs from the crisis in global capitalism in Britain. Images from the Occupy series.
